This site does one route. Not "Europe", not "worldwide" — the United Kingdom to
Finland, which is a specific journey with specific problems, and doing only it means
we are not learning them again on your move.
There is no land route to Finland that does not go through the Arctic, so every
household move involves a sea leg. There are two sensible ones: a Baltic ferry from
the German coast, or the longer drive up through Denmark and Sweden with a shorter
crossing to Turku. Which we use depends on the destination, the sailing schedule and,
in winter, the ice.
Around that sits the part most people underestimate: the paperwork. A household move
into Finland is now a formal EU import, and the relief that makes it affordable has
to be claimed properly, with documents that take time to obtain.
What that means practically
Start earlier than feels necessary. Get the survey done properly, because the
inventory it produces is the customs packing list. And be honest with us about your
dates, because "we would like to be there by the spring" and "we complete on a fixed
date" lead to completely different recommendations.
